Williamsburg Three-Bedroom Condo in Former Factory With East River Views Asks $2.995 Million

Image
This loft-like Williamsburg condo offers 12 -foot ceilings and a corner berth that makes for striking views of the East River and the Manhattan skyline. It’s at 60 Broadway on the eighth floor of the Gretsch Building, a former musical instrument factory that was converted in 2005. The place is pretty fab on its own, but there’s also an intriguing opportunity here for the buyer who’s deep-pocketed enough to pull it off (and that’s extremely deep-pocketed). An adjoining corner unit is also for sale, allowing for the option of buying both and combining them, making for over 4,000 square feet of space and a panoramic view that’d be pretty exceptional. As it stands, this one’s got three bedrooms and 2.5 baths, with a master bedroom that offers a walk-in closet, an en suite white marble bath and the same west-facing vista as the living room. The kitchen is open plan, as one would expect, with powder blue cabinetry , granite countertops, a spacious island, a Wolf range and a SubZero fridg...

The third week of August tends to the busiest single week for renters because of the flood of college students coming to New York and recent grads starting new jobs in September, according to the roommate- search app SpareRoom . The city’s streets around universities such as NYU, Columbia and Barnard will soon be cordoned off on Aug. 27 for the annual rite of “move-in day,” wh...

Brooklyn Heights Tenants Sue Kushner Co. For Allegedly Hiding Rent-Stabilized Status: Gothamist

A group of tenants in a building owned by Kushner Companies is suing the company over what they say is a failure by their landlord to register their apartments as rent-stabilized or offer them rent-stabilized leases. The lawsuit by the residents of 89 Hicks Street alleges that after the Kushner Companies bought the 48-unit building in 2014, it didn't follow rules regarding the building's rent-stabilization status. According to an investigation by Housing Rights Initiative , the building was temporarily exempt from rent stabilization while it was first owned by the Watchtower Society and then used as student housing by Brooklyn Law School . However, according to state law, all units should have been put back into the rent stabilization program when the building was sold, and their rents returned to where they were when the buildings were taken out of the program. Instead, the suit says, Kushner Companies only registered five of the units with the Division of Housing And Co...

The lawsuit, which seeks class action status , comes at a time when the company is already facing scrutiny over its ownership and management of a massive multifamily portfolio with hundreds of rent-stabilized units across the city, and puts a further spotlight on Jared Kushner, the former CEO of the firm and top White House adviser who continues to hold a stake in the Brooklyn Heights property . For years, the 48- unit apartment building at 89 Hicks Street was a servant to institutions. It was first converted to religious housing for the Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1989, and later became a dorm for Brooklyn Law Schoo...
