Nearly 72 percent of Millennials shared their home with someone other than their partner in 2016, according to a report from New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer . And now is the time of year that many of these young New Yorkers are searching for new digs. The third week of August tends to the busiest single week for renters because of the flood of college students coming to New York and recent grads starting new jobs in September, according to the roommate- search app SpareRoom . The city’s streets around universities such as NYU, Columbia and Barnard will soon be cordoned off on Aug. 27 for the annual rite of “move-in day,” wh...

Image
PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — If you've ever wanted to live in the old Brooklyn home of a notorious gangster, you've got a chance to do it. The Park Slope home where Al Capone used to live is up for sale, and it will only cost you a cool $2.5 million to move in. Capone grew up in a nearby building on Garfield Place, according to realtor.com, and moved into this listing in the early 1900s. "If he had lived here today, he wouldn’t have to go into the rum-running business," listing agent Bren Salamon told Patch . That's because Capone could make some serious dough from the two rental units attached to the condo, which could bring in a pretty penny in 2017 Park Slope . Anyone who moves in, though, won't be looking at any old relics of Brooklyn gone by. The home, as many are in the borough these days, was completely renovated by an investor about a year ago. The main townhouse is 2, 980 square feet spread over two levels. Along with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, t...

Reflecting On Piper Perabo's Manhattan Apartment In 'Coyote Ugly': Gothamist

Image
There's no end to the unrealistic NYC apartments on the small and silver screen, but Piper Perabo's Chinatown apartment in the classic 2000 film Coyote Ugly is a noteworthy offender. For those of you who are unlucky enough to have missed Coyote Ugly , or who need a refresher, here is the gist—Perabo plays Violet, a starry-eyed songwriter from a far away land called New Jersey who moves to the Big City to find her break, but ends up making ends meet by bartending at Coyote Ugly, a popular establishment where ladies dance on tables and pour ice on people. There's a lot of High Drama in this film—Perabo starts a relationship with super hot Australian Adam Garcia , alienates dad John Goodman , has love/hate tension with boss Maria Bello , and tries to get famous people to sing her songs. Throughout this, though, she somehow manages to live ALONE in a MASSIVE apartment in Chinatown, a feat far less realistic than getting LeAnn Rimes to perform "Can't Fight the Moonl...

The home was sold by Rivers' daughter Melissa, who had her own apartment within the triplex. The buyers, who closed on the deal unusually quickly , li...
