Man fatally stabbed near new Greenpoint home

Image
A neighbor flashing a box cutter prompted a devout Brooklyn Catholic to move to a different neighborhood — only to get stabbed to death Friday night near his new address. New details about why George Carroll and his wife chose to move away from Cypress Hills, the neighborhood they loved, added a tragic twist to his murder on a Greenpoint sidewalk. On Jan. 4, Carroll got into an argument near his former home in Cypress Hills with Steven Lissone, 34, who pulled a box cutter and yelled, “I’ll f---ing cut you!” according to police. Carroll’s friend Jason Andrew said the fight was over loud music. Cops ID suspect wanted for fatally stabbing Brooklyn man “He was complaining about some sound issues on his block,” Andrew said. “I think he thought he could walk up to anybody and say, ‘hey your music is too loud.’ ” Christina Romero Carroll created to GoFundMe page, saying that she wants to give her husband a proper Catholic burial ." src="http://asset...

Bklyn. affordable housing plan faces delays due to de Blasio

Image
When Mayor de Blasio held a press conference in May 2014 to debut his new affordable housing plan , his full- color presentation touted a project called Spring Creek in Brooklyn. Spring Creek was flagged as a “case study” partnership between the city and developers to “create a strong, vibrant and self-sustaining neighborhood.” But on Friday, the bulk of that project remained a big, ugly vacant field of weeds and abandoned roadway in East New York. More than 1,500 of 1, 803 planned affordable units are now in a bureaucratic Twilight Zone — and may become less affordable as a result. “There is no progress from the progressive mayor ,” said the Rev. David Brawley, a leader of East Brooklyn Congregations , one of the groups sponsoring Spring Creek . Brawley said the delays to Spring Creek caused by the de Blasio administration are particularly ironic given that the mayor cited the project in his promise to build or preserve 200, 00...
