Pleasanton council to consider confirming new smoking restrictions for apartments | News

The Pleasanton City Council is set Tuesday to consider final approval of a proposed ordinance to implement stringent smoking regulations for rental apartments across the city. On track to take effect early next year, the new restrictions would include banning smoking inside individual units , on balconies and patios, in all indoor and outdoor common areas and within 25 feet of those locations at apartment complexes under single ownership with two or more leased units. The council gave unanimous support to the proposed ordinance during a first reading in June, but asked city staff to do more research on how to handle medical marijuana before giving final approval . Under the recommendation from city staff, the ordinance would allow medical marijuana smoking inside apartment units "if tenant provides landlord written documentation that tenant needs it for medical purposes , no alternative means of delivery or ingestion are available and tenant is unable to smoke o...

Fayetteville tax break for apartments developer — why?

I attended Thursday’s night Council meeting just for item #6, the TAD application for Hearthside Lafayette Project . I was disappointed that it was tabled to a special meeting next week (day and time uncertain) instead of to the next council meeting. It may limit the participation like the 10 a.m. meeting Thursday to have the first reading to approve the millage rate. I live in the Villages of LaFayette. I was opposed to the change in the PCD to allow the senior apartments. I am opposed to the variances requested so the apartments can have parking in the front. The no-front-parking was a part of the approved PCD plan . At least the parking at the Meridian apartments is internal. I am opposed to extending the TAD ( Tax Allocation District ) to include the senior apartments. The city gave the developers of the Villages at Lafayette PCD many concessions. There is no reason to give a developer of vacant property a TAD. The TAD was approved for renovation of existed buildings to stop downt...

Garner considers $1.2M, 10-unit apartment development | Mason City & North Iowa

GARNER | The Garner City Council is hoping a new 10- unit apartment project will reduce the gap in the city’s housing market. At its Tuesday, Aug. 22, meeting, the council will consider accepting a proposal received from Echo Development Group of Cedar Falls earlier this month for the construction and operation of a $1.2 million 10- unit apartment building at 895 W. Eighth St. in Garner earlier this month. “We’re excited about it,” said Randy Lansing, Garner city administrator . According to Echo Development Group ’s proposal, the building will feature four three-bedroom apartments and six two-bedroom apartments. Each apartment will have a garage, a laundry room and 2½ bathrooms. The proposal, which was submitted during the city’s request for proposals period between June 15 and Aug. 3, was the only one it received, despite its incentives to attract developers. In June, the city of Garner began searching for “an experienced multi- family housing developer or operator” to partne...

West Seattle Blog… | CAMP SECOND CHANCE: With operator change ahead, residents plead to keep their camp drug

Image
(WSB photo: Tents and tiny houses at Camp Second Chance) By Tracy Record West Seattle Blog editor The Camp Second Chance residents who gathered Wednesday afternoon to hear from city reps and their future fiscal agent/operator had one main question: Will they be allowed to keep their self-imposed rules under new management – particularly, no drugs and alcohol? They did not get an immediate commitment from Sharon Lee of the Low- Income Housing Institute , which is expected to assume the city contract that is currently held by Patacara Community Services , withdrawing from its management of the city- sanctioned camp after questions about the status of privately donated money , as first reported here last Friday. At multiple times during Wednesday’s meeting, held under a canopy on the camp’s fenced site at the city-owned Myers Way Parcels , Lee said it was too soon for her to be able to say how things will work once her organization takes over, expected to happen at the start of Septe...

One of the housing projects that the City Council considered on Tuesday is a 200-unit multi- family apartment complex (shown with a green border) near the intersection of Willow Lake Road and Highway 89; it’s currently the Dells View Mobile Home Park . PRESCOTT – Traffic concerns dominated much of the discussion this week on a 200- unit apartment complex planned near the Willow Lake Road / Prescott Lakes Parkway intersection. Several residents voiced worries at the Tuesday, Sept. 13, Prescott City Council meeting that Prescott Lakes Villas , a seven- building apartment complex planned at 2051 Willow Lake Road , would increase traffic congestion on Willow Lake Road – especially at the busy interse...

A Cedar Ridge Apartments tenant shows a respirator she claims she sometimes needs due to alleged mold issues at the south Sacramento apartment complex . Code Enforcement is continuing to inspect the complex to determine if there are violations. PHOTO BY MICHAEL MOTT Nancy Avalos watched as her 5- and 8-year-old daughters danced and chased each other. Their laughter filled the living room. “My daughters don’t want to move out,” Avalos said in Spanish. Her voice broke. “I feel like I’ve let them down.” Avalos moved to Cedar Ridge Apartments six years ago. After sharing a living room of an apartment together, the single mother wanted to give her three daughters room to play and moved to a place they could call their own. But now the family is moving out of its two- bedroom apartment , after Avalos’ monthly rent rose from $802 to $1,086. For Avalos and her neighbors, sharp rent and utility bill increases hit the past two months as the property owner, Torrance- based Cedar Ridge Apa...

View Full Caption DNAinfo/Ted Cox OLD TOWN — Residents near the CTA Sedgwick "L" stop said opposition is growing to a proposed homeless shelter across the street from the station. "There's very strong resistance to it," Mitch Newman, one of the organizers of Old Town Neighbor's Vote, said Tuesday. "Probably, of the people we talked to, 9-to-1 against it." Newman said residents were blindsided by a community meeting earlier this month that was promoted as being about a "transit-oriented development" without mentioning the purpose of the proposal. Can't afford a house in Rochester, even on a good salary? | Local News

Heather Smith says affordable housing isn 't always affordable. The single mother of two said when her $880-per-month rent in southeast Rochester jumped by $85 in the second year, it left her struggling to pay for rent and food, even though she has good job at Zumbro Valley Health Center . "Why am I not able to afford the basics I need to live?" she asked during Tuesday's community meeting held by CURE — Communities United for Rochester's Empowerment — a social action group affiliated with SEIU Healthcare. She said the unexpected increase on an already tight budget could have been unbearable without outside family support. "I got a 46-cent raise at work," she said, noting it didn't cover the rent increase, or her rising food costs . "How am I supposed to save for a house?" she said. Homeownership, said Zach Winter, doesn't necessarily solve the problem of a tight budget. He said he bought a house near Silver Lake, which ...

Fairfield Co loses jobs, a dream of changing its fortunes | News

JENKINSVILLE (AP) — For the better part of a decade, thousands of people showed up in this town on the shores of Lake Monticello and got to work on a project that was sure to change its fortunes. As a pair of nuclear reactors rose behind the gates of the V.C. Summer power plant , a town of fewer than 100 residents suddenly had a few thousand. Campsites and restaurants sprang up before long to meet the new need, banking on a few more years of construction work and decades of maintenance to come. The boom in this rural corner of Fairfield County coincided with rising hopes in Winnsboro, the county seat, which is 25 minutes east on winding backroads. South Carolina Electric & Gas was spending billions of dollars to build two of America's first new nuclear reactors since the 1980s, and county officials expected a property tax windfall — tens of millions of dollars every year for decades. They imagined new fortunes for one of the state's smallest counties, a place with a sh...

Clean-up campaign ramps up | Northern Star

PETER Campbell says Ballina has "brand damage" following the publicity about shark attacks in recent years, and cleaning the beaches of flood debris is a simple step to help fix that problem. Mr Campbell is the manager of East Ballina's Grandview Apartments, which has holiday lets. He said he is regularly asked by holiday-makers if it is safe to swim at local beaches. He said the logs which washed up on Lighthouse and Shelly beaches following the floods earlier this year didn't help alleviate visitors' concerns about safety. "Getting trees off the beaches is a start," he said. "It (the debris on the beaches) doesn't make people want to come here." Ballina Shire Council recently rejected a proposal by Cr Sharon Cadwallader to clean up the flood debris in what was a close vote, decided by a draw from the hat. Staff reported to the meeting that the "council's current level of service, determined by resolution many years ...

Pamplin Media Group - Forest Grove park fees double over next three years

Image
View Comments Councilors concerned a sharper parks fee increase might raise home prices too high Instead of doubling deveopers' parks-related fees all at once Jan. 1, Forest Grove City Council members have decided to spread out the increase over three years. At its Aug. 14 meeting, councilors considered a proposal to double the city's System Development Charges (SDC), which developers pay when they apply for building permits. The idea is that this money helps pay to create certain services — in this case, parks — the eventual residents of these new homes will use. The current SDC for parks is $3,000 per unit. The new proposed rate is $6,010. These park charges will support the city's recently revised 10- year master plan for parks and recreation, which would enhance current parks as well as offer more recreational facilities. Forest Grove is expected to welcome hundreds of new houses and apartment units and thousands of new residents in the next 10 years. At the he...

100 pack hearing on Campana affordable housing proposal, offer split opinions

Supporters and opponents of a proposed conversion of the historic Campana building to affordable housing on the borders of Batavia and Geneva packed another meeting this week to share their views. About 100 people attended the continuation Wednesday of an Aug. 2 public hearing before the plan commission , a citizen- appointed advisory panel to the Batavia City Council . On one side were residents worried about traffic, the influx of students in the Geneva schools and whether the former 1936 factory is suitable for living quarters. On the other side were proponents of affordable housing and historic preservation . Evergreen Real Estate Group has submitted a zoning application with Batavia to put 80 market-rate and income restricted apartments into the 131,000-square-foot building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and received a local historic landmark designation in 2003. Sandra Ellis said the Fabyan Parkway and Route 31 intersection has been known as a...
