By DARLENE SUPERVILLE Associated Press BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (AP) - President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed into law an updated veterans' education bill that marks the largest expansion of college assistance for military veterans in a decade. Heated Rematch in Central Brooklyn, Where Incumbent Seeks to Hold City Council Seat

Council Member Laurie Cumbo (@cmlauriecumbo) Hundreds of Crown Heights residents and community activists laughed and jeered at a recent community forum as a lanky man wearing a paper mask of Mayor Bill de Blasio joked about bringing affordable housing to their neighborhood. The event was punctuated by moments of levity but mostly dominated by anger from residents who feel their elected representatives have sold out their interests to the real estate industry , with a focus on the proposed redevelopment of the vacant Bedford Union Armory . City Council Member Laurie Cumbo , who represents the district, did not attend the August 2 forum focused on the project -- she was just days from giving birth to a son -- and when representatives of her office tried to speak, they were shouted down. Berkeley school employees could soon be able to rent housing units on district campuses

BUSD discussed the possibility of providing rental housing units to school district employees Wednesday because of Berkeley’s growing housing crisis . The housing proposal falls under Senate Bill 1413, which allows school districts to provide affordable housing to employees in need. The standard cost for the housing is based on the median income in Alameda County, which is less than $100,000 for a four-person household. Executive Director of Facilities Timothy White led the meeting’s discussion about housing and said the goal is to house about 1, 250 district employees . “We are not the only school district that has expressed this interest: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Clara, San Mateo County and even Oakland Unified have all looked into teacher housing,” White said. “There is a healthy debate about the need of employee housing.” White said the proposed sites for the housing units are 1224 University Ave . , 1720 Oregon St., the Berkeley Adult School parking lot and the ...

No ID, No Job; The Ministry Working to Give DC's Homeless A Second Chance

WASHINGTON - In the heart of Washington DC, one of the nation's most prosperous cities, lies a secret. While tourists see the Washington Monument and Lincoln memorial, what they may not see are as many as eight- thousand homeless men and women. The good news; dozens of church's and social programs are working to change that statistic. While some of the problems with chronic homelessness are obvious, a unique ministry in the heart of the district is tackling an issue most wouldn't give a second thought. The ID Ministry A driver's license or a state ID can open up a world of possibilities. But try losing one and same possibilities disappear.  "Our whole idea of a system in this country is based on being able to be tracked and prove who you are. Even more so since 2001, with the 911 attacks. At this point, you can't really do anything if you don't have an ID," Pastor Ben Roberts of Foundry United Methodist told CBN News .  That's where Foundry Unite...
