Riverview Lofts apartment complex receives site plan approval

Image
In a split vote, the Riverhead Town Board approved both the site plan and the special permit application for Georgica Green Ventures’ proposed 116-unit mixed-use apartment complex Tuesday night . The board also approved an environmental study submitted by the applicant and stated that the project will have “no significant adverse environmental impacts .” The vote was three in favor, one opposed and one abstaining. Councilman Tim Hubbard cast the no vote, and Councilwoman Jodi Giglio abstained . “There’s a lot of issues with this project that I’m concerned about,” Mr. Hubbard said, citing parking, a proposed 30- year Industrial Development Agency tax abatement , and the impact the apartments might have on school enrollment. Ms. Giglio said she asked the town ethics board for an opinion on whether she should abstain, since she is an owner of the Summerwind Square apartments downtown , and they recommended she abstain. The five-story project, Riverview Lofts , is on the southwest co...

The actions green-light the construction of the five-story building with 12,623 square feet of first- floor commercial space , 55 on- site parking spaces and four-stories consisting of 116 workforce rental apartments : 31 studio, 37 one-bedroom and 28 two-bedroom units. Councilman Tim Hubbard , without comment, cast the lone vote against both measures. Living On the Edge | Boise green lights housing at river's edge | News

The City of Boise has cleared the way for the proposed River Edge Apartments , an off- campus housing project for Boise State. The 350,000-square-foot, five-story project is designed for 622 residents on a 3.4-acre footprint at 1004 Royal Blvd. adjacent to the Greenbelt and Ann Morrison Park . But some neighbors aren't thrilled about the project. Eileen Barber is the owner of a three- story office building adjacent to the proposed site--a 25,000-square-foot building that houses Keynetics and its 100 employees. "The current design would harm not only the neighborhood, including Ann Morrison Park and the Boise River Greenbelt . It also may make the proposed project an undesirable place to live," said Barber. She called attention to the classification of the building as multi-family housing and, on April 17, asked Boise City Council members to reconsider the project, which at its highest point would be 28 feet taller than the current zoning allows. Project planner Becky...

Most Popular The board also approved 18 years of payments in lieu of taxes, or PILOTs, that will start at $183,062 for the first three years and increase 2 percent annually for 15 years. View Full Caption DNAinfo/Ted Cox OLD TOWN — Residents near the CTA Sedgwick "L" stop said opposition is growing to a proposed homeless shelter across the street from the station. "There's very strong resistance to it," Mitch Newman, one of the organizers of Old Town Neighbor's Vote, said Tuesday. "Probably, of the people we talked to, 9-to-1 against it." Newman said residents were blindsided by a community meeting earlier this month that was promoted as being about a "transit-oriented development" without mentioning the purpose of the proposal. Lincoln Park Community Services , a homeless agency now ...

View Full Caption DNAinfo/Linze Rice EDGEWATER — The contractor hired to remove years worth of asbestos from the abandoned Edgewater Medical Center said his company halted work after not being compensated by developers.  "We stopped work because we were not paid," Daniel Suchta, owner of DDS Environmental, told DNAinfo. Suchta's comments are at odds with those of the local alderman and lead developer, MCZ Development , who told residents at a meeting this month that work stopped in April because electrical work needed to be completed before demolition could continue. The medical campus at 5700 N. Ashland Ave. is slated to become 141 apartments, 78 parking spaces, single-family ...

The long retail spine of Sydney Road, Brunswick, just north of Melbourne's CBD, was once a prosperous trading outpost on the way to the goldfields. These days it's a bohemian mix of variety stores, op shops, halal butchers and Lebanese bakeries. Take a side street to the west, however, and a different picture emerges. Sandwiched between Sydney Road and the Upfield train line is an area undergoing rapid and widespread transformation. Light industry is fast being replaced by mid- rise apartment buildings , their inhabitants attracted by the short commute into town and cheaper prices than in the city's south-east. The quality of these units is, on the whole, depressingly bad; think poor ventilation and bedrooms that "borrow" natural light (a weasel word for being dark and windowless). The occasional jazzy façade tries feebly to make up for otherwise cheap construction amid a chorus of greys. At ground level, carpark roller doors alternate with mean pocket garden...
