Prize North Sydney penthouse flaunts sky-high view

Having access to the rooftop swimming pool of Crown’s Skye development would be reason enough to add this gem of a penthouse to your property portfolio.

It is a mesmerising strip of turquoise perched 21 storeys above North Sydney, with views that seem to stretch east about as far as Tierra del Fuego.

In summer, you could easily idle in the water – forearms resting on the infinity edge, gazing out over the world – until you dissolved. Or at least until you got hungry.

Skye’s rooftop also boasts a substantial gym for the virtuous and, for the popular, a large lounge area that can be reserved for private events.

The penthouse itself is also a prize. Its centrepiece is a glorious open-plan living, dining and kitchen area that looks out over the harbour and Parramatta River to the west, roughly as far as Madagascar.

Elegant proportions, white walls, blonde floorboards and a sleek white island kitchen combine to make it a beguiling space.

The kitchen boasts a gleaming Miele induction cooktop, mirror splashback and about four different types of oven.

A touch-screen near the front door is a control-centre for temperature, lighting, security and more. It does not, as far as we know, control the weather, but you can at least use it to check the forecast before leaving home.

A glorious curved timber wall at the rear of the living area incorporates two concealed doors. One door leads to the third bedroom, the other to a flight of stairs and another hard-to-leave outdoor space: the apartment’s private rooftop terrace and garden.

The Skye development was designed by Koichi Takada Architects, an award-winning, Sydney-based firm with a design philosophy that draws inspiration from nature.

Undulating strips of bronze-hued steel that are part of Skye’s facade, for example, are intended as a reference to both the aurora australis and culms of bamboo.

One such strip runs along the rear of apartment 2000’s rooftop garden, embracing and protecting it like the high back of a throne. It’s a top spot and you could easily lose a lot of time up there, just breathing and staring at the horizon.

Tim Foote, of Belle Property Mosman, is looking to claim a sale price between $4.1 million and $4.5 million for the apartment when it goes to auction on August 26.

“The apartment is the best in the building,” Foote says.
