Starkville teen facing second murder charge | News

STARKVILLE – A 16-year-old male has been charged with murder, following a shooting Thursday evening in Starkville.

Police arrested Tomas Talib Bradford, 16, of Starkville and charged him with murder. During his initial court appearance Friday, his bond was set at $2 million.

The Starkville police responded around 9 p.m. Aug. 24 to the Brooksville Garden apartments for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived at the Everglade Avenue complex, just west of Westside Park, they found Deontay M. Rogers, 20, of Starkville, had been shot. Rogers was pronounced dead at the Oktibbeha County Hospital shortly after the incident.

According to Starkville police spokesman Cpl. Brandon Lovelady, Bradford was out on bond on charges of murder and armed robbery for a March 4, 2016, incident.

In that case, police responded to a shots fired call at the Camelot Apartments at 1040 North Montgomery St. around 7:30 that Friday evening and found a black male juvenile on the ground, suffering from an apparent gunshot. The teen died on the scene.

At the time, police said it appeared to be an armed robbery that went bad. Bradford, then just 15, and Abdural Funtane Lee Jr., 17, where charged in connection with that shooting.

Anyone with any information into this incident is asked to contact the Starkville Police Department at 662-323-4131 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151. Crime Stoppers may offer a cash reward.
