Firefighters Save Cat From Burning Apartment In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A lucky kitty is living proof that cats have nine lives after firefighters rescued it from a burning second-floor apartment in Downers Grove Monday. When fire crews arrived at the scene of the blaze in the 5100 block of Fairview, smoke was billowing from an apartment on the second floor, where the cat and several other animals were trapped.

Downers Grove Fire Department called the Downers Grove Police Department and the Westmont, Lisle-Woodridge, and Darien-Woodridge Fire Departments for backup and firefighters got the flames under control in just 20 minutes. Fire Chief Jim Jackson was able to rescue the cat and firefighters used special equipment to sustain the cat with oxygen treatments. We're really glad the little guy is alright!

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at press time. >>Image provided by Downers Grove Fire Department
