Woman in Independence shot, possibly by target shooter

A woman was struck by a bullet Sunday night that may have been fired by someone target shooting in a field, Independence police said.

The incident happened about 6 p.m. at the Hawthorne Place Apartments, in the 600 block of North Spring Lake Drive.

Police tweeted the woman was standing outside within the apartment complex. The bullet may have come from a field to the northwest. The woman was being treated at a local hospital.
