Crestview man charged with burglary, battery

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG-WECP) - A Crestview man who was shot twice after allegedly forcing his way into an Okaloosa Island apartment in July has been charged with burglary and battery by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff's Office officials say 27-year-old Eddie Ray Moore was taken into custody on August 23. According to investigators, Moore knocked on Jonathan Kirby’s door around 7 a.m. July 1st and then pushed his way into the apartment. Kirby says Moore hit him and the pair began struggling.

From there, investigators say Kirby got his .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun from the kitchen. He told Investigators when Moore pulled out his own firearm, he fired at him multiple times, hitting Moore in the right hip and leg.

Officials say Moore was able to walk to his car parked outside and drive himself to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center Emergency Room.

According to Kirby, two days prior to the incident, Moore had accused him of selling narcotics to a family member and they had a heated argument that got physical.
