The Edge apartment project at Cleveland State University getting underway

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Construction of The Edge, a 240-unit apartment complex across from Cleveland State University is getting underway, several years after it was first proposed.

The 11-story project, along the full block of East 18th Street, between Prospect and Euclid avenues, is expected to open in fall 2017.

The Edge at 1750 Euclid Avenue is located directly across from CSU's quad and next to Playhouse Square.

The student housing project by Cayco Realty Group replaces two vacant buildings owned by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.

Clayco gained initial city approvals in early 2014, but had to revise designs and secure financing.

The project received approval from the city's planning commission a year ago.

The Edge will include 240 residential suites with a double height lobby, a fitness center, lounge, cafe, study areas and a 163-car secured private garage. Each of the one, two, three and four bedroom suites include a living room, kitchen, washer/dryer and a private bath for each bedroom.

CSU trustees recently agreed to lease 1,950 square feet in the Union Building to Clayco for a leasing office. CSU leases the eight-story historic building at 1836 Euclid Avenue from Liberty Development Company.

Clayco will lease the space from 12 to 18 months and pay $19,500 per year.

Clayco will upgrade electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning in the space. It will receive a $7,000 rent credit from CSU over the life of the lease for the improvements.
