ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A woman and a man were found shot at a gas station in northwest Atlanta early Friday morning.

According to Atlanta police, the victims were shot at the Riverwood Apartments on Bolton Road at about 6:45 a.m. They drove themselves a nearby gas station on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, police said.

The woman was shot in the arm. The man was shot in the back and the round exited his chest.

The victims were taken to an area hospital, the man in critical condition. Both victims were later listed in stable condition, police said.

Timothy Johnson says the noise rattled him out of bed at the Riverwood Apartment complex on Bolton Road.

"My wife was getting my daughter ready to go to school, and all of the sudden, I heard gunshots. I jumped up," said Johnson.

Other neighbors heard it too. Mary Bryant looked out the window.

"Only thing I saw was a car going around the bridge real fast. I don't know what color it was or not," said Bryant.

Names of the victims were not immediately released. The motive of the shooting remains under investigation. Officers were still trying to figure out who fired the shots.

Police said the shooter and the victims knew each other.
