Woman shot outside Independence apartment complex

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. —

A woman standing outside an apartment complex in Independence was shot Sunday evening.

Police said officers were dispatched to the 600 block of N. Spring Lake Drive just after 6 p.m. to investigate a shooting at the Hawthorne Place Apartments.

Police said a woman was shot by an unknown subject while she was standing outside of the complex.

Officers are still investigating, however, they believe the woman was shot by someone target-shooting in a field just northwest of the apartment building.

The woman suffered a serious gunshot wound and was rushed to an area hospital.

Two men suspected of brazenly breaking into cars early Friday evening led police on a chase through Petaluma, fleeing on foot after an officer rammed a patrol car into the suspect’s vehicle in an attempt to end the pursuit, police said.
