Man gets 25 years in prison for shooting 2 Brunswick men | Jacksonville News, Sports and Entertainment

BRUNSWICK, GA. | A Virginia man was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of shooting two men at his former girlfriend’s Brunswick apartment a year ago.

After hearing evidence against 30-year-old Austin Patrick Wigfall Wednesday and Thursday, the jury returned a verdict Friday finding him guilty of two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a felon, District Attorney Jackie Johnson said in a written statement.

Superior Court Judge Stephen Kelley, who presided over the trial, sentenced Wigfall to 45 years, 25 to be served in prison and the rest on probation.

On Aug. 19, 2016, Wigfall had gone to a residence in Evergreen Apartments in Brunswick to confront his former girlfriend, Johnson’s statement said.

The woman was in the apartment with two men, and Wigfall shot one in the back and abdomen and the other in the leg, Johnson said.

The victims crawled from the residence to a neighbor’s house for help, and both survived their injuries.

After an intensive search, police found Wigfall the next day hiding in a car.
