SGA announces new bus routes for fall | UGAnews
On Aug. 11, the Student Government Association introduced plans for new University of Georgia nighttime bus routes.
"The new night bus routes will decrease wait times and provide students with safe transportation while still providing coverage to all areas previously serviced," according to a press release.
The new routes will increase service on Family Housing, Milledge and Health Science Campus. Additionally, the new plan hopes to decrease wait times for students from 10 minutes to 7.5 minutes. Students waiting for nighttime buses will now wait an average of 15 minutes, as opposed to the previous 20 minute wait.
Changes to the nighttime bus routes have been in the works since last year when former SGA President Houston Gaines made the project a priority of his administration.
Initial plans to alter the late night routes proved controversial after students living at Riverbend Parkway raised concerns that the plan would exclude their apartment complexes from the route.
The new plan will continue to service Riverbend Parkway through the year via an express shuttle, according to a statement on SGA's Facebook.
“We are always looking for ways to serve the student body and help better their everyday lives on campus. These new night bus routes do just that,” said SGA President Cameron Keen in a press release. “After listening to student concerns, we advocated for bus routes that benefit all students.”
