OKALOOSA ISLAND — A Crestview man who was shot twice last month after allegedly forcing his way into an Okaloosa Island apartment has been charged with burglary and battery by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Eddie Ray Moore, 27, of 1244 E. Chestnut Ave., was arrested Wednesday morning.
Investigators say Moore knocked on Jonathan Kirby’s door at 326 Bluefish Drive about 7 a.m. July 1 and then pushed his way into the apartment. Kirby told authorities Moore hit him and the pair began to struggle. Kirby got his .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun from the kitchen. He told investigators when Moore pulled out his own firearm, he fired several times and hit Moore in the right hip and leg.
Moore was able to walk to his car parked outside and drive himself to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center emergency room.
Kirby said Moore had accused him two days earlier of selling narcotics to a family member and they had a heated argument that got physical.
A witness told the Daily News a few days after the attack he saw an agitated man going into Kirby's apartment before hearing popping sounds and seeing the man with blood on the back of his shirt run to his car.
Moore is being held in the Okaloosa County Jail.
