Woman shot in head, man found dead at Carriage Hill apartment
A Phenix City woman was found shot in the head and a man found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at Carriage Hill Apartments on Saturday, according to a Phenix City Police Department release.
Phenix City police responded to the shooting around 2:50 p.m., according to the release. The injured woman was transported to Midtown Medical Center for treatment. Her condition has not been disclosed.
The deceased man was found dead upstairs in the Building V apartment. Phenix City police stated they are not releasing further information at this time.
At 5:30 p.m. Saturday, investigators were removing a pair of tennis shoes and collecting evidence from the apartment. Some family members of the potential victim appeared to be outside the two-story apartment building.
As of 5 p.m., a Russell County deputy coroner was responding to the scene. As of 5:40 p.m., the Russell County Coroner's Office would not confirm whether a person had been killed during the shooting. As of 6:30 p.m., a representative at the Russell County Coroner's Office said the office could not confirm whether the deputy coroner had arrived at the scene or which deputy coroner responded to the scene.
A Carriage Hill Apartments representative could not be reached for comment.
Phenix City Police Officer Daniel Davis, 29, died of an accidental gunshot wound at Carriage Hill Apartments in November 2013, according to earlier Ledger-Enquirer reports.
