Inc. magazine  has ranked Nickell Rental No. 217 in construction on its 36th annual Inc. 5000 list of the fastest- growing private companies in America. Overall, Nickell moved up to the #3632 spot, making their name known for the third year in a row on this acclaimed list . Nickell Rental is one of two traditional rental companies on the list including Durante Rentals – fellow members in the ARA – and is following in the footsteps of other well-known companies such as Yelp, Zillow, Microsoft, Linked In and many more that gained their first national exposure as honorees of the Inc. 5000. “Being on the list three years in a row is a surreal achievement,” says Josh Nickell – CEO of Nickell Rental . “It shows we aren’t just a one-hit wonder, but rather a driving force in the industry – and it’s our amazing team that is behind that wheel. Mainstreet Equity: Needs A Catalyst - Mainstreet Equity Corp. (OTCMKTS:MEQYF)

Mainstreet Equity (OTC:OTC:MEQYF) is an under-the-radar residential apartment owner/operator in Western Canada . Despite a market cap of $325m (all figures Canadian ), it often sees volume of less than 1000 shares a day on the TSX where it trades under the MEQ ticker. The recent investor presentation (July 2017) gives a brief snapshot of the properties Mainstreet controls . It's important to note that Mainstreet is well away from the frothier markets in Canadian real estate , both geographically and in terms of price point. The average apartment it owns is valued at just marginally more than $100k with an average monthly rent of just $864. These are solidly middle class , leaning lower middle class , properties. The company is focused on rolling up what they view as smaller, underperforming buildings, often ones that have fallen into significant disrepair, are being managed by inexperienced and/or unprofessional owners, and giving them a makeover, with some recent examples fr...

Lack of Bay Area housing prompts rise in ‘super commuters’

As the housing crisis has grown across California, the state has seen a rise in the number of “super commuters,” residents who commute longer hours to cities starved of affordable housing, including those in the Bay Area. While the number of jobs brought into the Bay Area has grown in recent years, the availability of housing has not matched this increase, according to State Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley. People working in service-type jobs are not being paid wages that would allow them to afford housing in the cities where they are employed, forcing many to make long commutes to and from work each day, Skinner said. “Those are essential services, but then they’re driven out to living further and further away just to be able to afford somewhere to live,” Skinner said. Census data from 2015 reported San Francisco , Alameda and Contra Costa counties’ average commute times to be 31.7 minutes, 30.7 minutes and 35.3 minutes respectively — an increase from 2010, when the commute times for...
