Bklyn. affordable housing plan faces delays due to de Blasio

Image
When Mayor de Blasio held a press conference in May 2014 to debut his new affordable housing plan , his full- color presentation touted a project called Spring Creek in Brooklyn. Spring Creek was flagged as a “case study” partnership between the city and developers to “create a strong, vibrant and self-sustaining neighborhood.” But on Friday, the bulk of that project remained a big, ugly vacant field of weeds and abandoned roadway in East New York. More than 1,500 of 1, 803 planned affordable units are now in a bureaucratic Twilight Zone — and may become less affordable as a result. “There is no progress from the progressive mayor ,” said the Rev. David Brawley, a leader of East Brooklyn Congregations , one of the groups sponsoring Spring Creek . Brawley said the delays to Spring Creek caused by the de Blasio administration are particularly ironic given that the mayor cited the project in his promise to build or preserve 200, 00...

NW Georgia Housing Authority seeks $1.3M planning grant to target East Rome improvements | Local News

The Northwest Georgia Housing Authority plans to submit another request for a Choice Neighborhood planning grant of up to $1.3 million dollars. If the planning grant is awarded, it would put the housing authority in line for a potential implementation grant of upwards of $30 million. The authority submitted an application in 2016 but there was a problem with the application and Camiros, the Chicago- based consulting firm that wrote last year’s grant, is rewriting the 2017 application at no additional cost to the authority. Camiros was paid $8,000 for the 2016 application. NWGHA Executive Director Sandra Hudson said the agency is seeking to redevelop the Maple Street- East 12th Street community in East Rome with the funds. As part of the planning grant , the authority had to choose a small project to undertake as an example of the type of work that could be accomplished to completely turn around a community, and has chosen to do a streetscape project along East 12th. Last year,...

Pleasanton council to consider confirming new smoking restrictions for apartments | News

The Pleasanton City Council is set Tuesday to consider final approval of a proposed ordinance to implement stringent smoking regulations for rental apartments across the city. On track to take effect early next year, the new restrictions would include banning smoking inside individual units , on balconies and patios, in all indoor and outdoor common areas and within 25 feet of those locations at apartment complexes under single ownership with two or more leased units.
