Riverview Lofts apartment complex receives site plan approval

Image
In a split vote, the Riverhead Town Board approved both the site plan and the special permit application for Georgica Green Ventures’ proposed 116-unit mixed-use apartment complex Tuesday night . The board also approved an environmental study submitted by the applicant and stated that the project will have “no significant adverse environmental impacts .” The vote was three in favor, one opposed and one abstaining. Councilman Tim Hubbard cast the no vote, and Councilwoman Jodi Giglio abstained . “There’s a lot of issues with this project that I’m concerned about,” Mr. Hubbard said, citing parking, a proposed 30- year Industrial Development Agency tax abatement , and the impact the apartments might have on school enrollment. Ms. Giglio said she asked the town ethics board for an opinion on whether she should abstain, since she is an owner of the Summerwind Square apartments downtown , and they recommended she abstain. The five-story project, Riverview Lofts , is on the southwest co...

Willow Brook Golf Course moving clubhouse as part of massive mixed-use plan

Allen Township has cleared the way for the first step of moving the clubhouse and pro shop at Willow Brook Golf Course as part of a mixed-use development of 700 homes and a village center. The Fuller Family Trust was granted approval Tuesday by township supervisors for the transfer of a liquor license from the existing clubhouse to a new one planned to serve the golf course. Board approval of the transfer was necessary because it crosses municipal boundaries – the present clubhouse falls within North Catasauqua while the new one will be within Allen Township . Under the development plans , Willow Brook Golf Course would be reduced to nine holes. Plans call for an existing “L” barn used for boarding horses during equestrian events at Willow Brook Farms to be converted into the new clubhouse and pro shop, said Christopher Lloyd, a trustee for the Fuller Family. The 2,000-square-foot structure, located in the middle of the farm, will be re-purposed in order to provide seating for...

Ugly Duckling Del City property about to transform

DEL CITY — Efforts to transform what had been a blighted and crime-ridden area at Interstate 40 and Scott Drive into something this community can be proud of has cleared another hurdle. The city council and its development authority approved an agreement with a Texas-based developer this week to build a movie theater/bowling alley, restaurants and a grocery store on the southwest corner of the interchange this week. The developer, Hunt Properties Inc., told The Oklahoman on Wednesday the site is an ideal location for a project it expects will create a regional draw for future tenants. For the city, approval of the project marks the completion of a journey it started about a decade ago to take a undesirable area that consisted of dilapidated apartments and a strip club and turn it into something else. Del City officials said the deal represents an unprecedented investment in the community, and is proof the community can redevelop previously blighted areas using commitment, foresigh...

Controversial South Asheville project looks to pivot

Concerns about traffic congestion are once again circling around a proposed development off Overlook Road in South Asheville . The developer, Paul Holst of Greensboro, previously pitched a 221-apartment, 30-townhome development called Overlook Apartments. That original plan encountered resistance from South Asheville residents concerned  about whether the existing road infrastructure could handle the increase in cars associated with a development of that size.  In June, Holst’s team asked the  Buncombe County Board of Adjustment to delay a hearing on the project before ultimately scrapping the plans. Holst is now looking to build a 98-home subdivision, named Overlook Point , on the same 25-acre footprint at 109 Overlook Road . N.C. Department of Transportation data show that in 2014, Overlook Road had an annual average daily traffic of 9,000 cars, or nearly 3.3 million cars a year. Information from Asheville Police Department ’s traffic incident report database shows Overlook Ro...

Apartment complex with 256 units proposed near Mall of Georgia | News

A more than 250- unit apartment complex could be coming to the area between the Mall of Georgia and Coolray Field. The county’s Planning Commission is scheduled to consider a request by Pedcor Investments to recommend approval of a 256- unit apartment complex on 23.2 acres at the 1300 and 1400 blocks of Laurel Crossing Parkway next month. The site is east of Buford Drive and just south of Interstate 85 in the Mall of Georgia Overlay District . “The proposed development would add an important component to that encouraged mix of uses,” attorney Shane Lanham wrote in a letter to county officials. “Moreover, the proposed development is consistent with established development patterns and land uses in the area. “More intense commercial and office uses are dominant along major travel corridors with land uses transitioning to lower density developments moving off the roadway. The property is not located directly on Buford Drive, but on Laurel Crossing Parkway behind existing commercia...

View Full Caption DNAinfo/Linze Rice EDGEWATER — The contractor hired to remove years worth of asbestos from the abandoned Edgewater Medical Center said his company halted work after not being compensated by developers.  "We stopped work because we were not paid," Daniel Suchta, owner of DDS Environmental, told DNAinfo. Suchta's comments are at odds with those of the local alderman and lead developer, MCZ Development , who told residents at a meeting this month that work stopped in April because electrical work needed to be completed before demolition could continue. The medical campus at 5700 N. Ashland Ave. is slated to become 141 apartments, 78 parking spaces, single-family ...

Affordable housing development Ivanhoe Estate in Sydney gets government go-ahead

Image
The massive new social and affordable housing renewal development just given the go-ahead by the NSW Government in Sydney’s north has been greeted with cautious approval by experts. But while it’s been hailed as “ground-breaking” by some, with plans for similar scale projects at four other major sites, others have said it still is a long way off solving housing affordability for many Sydneysiders. “Of course, the provision of this new affordable housing is always good, but it’s still just a drop in the ocean,” says Associate Professor Eileen Webb , of the Curtin Law School , who’s been studying the lack of housing. Apartments proposed east of downtown Redwood City | Local News

A developer proposing an apartment building with a mix of market-rate and affordable units just east of Redwood City’s downtown is hoping to increase the city’s housing stock by 125 units. Though a public hearing date has not yet been confirmed for the six- and seven- story apartment building containing 15 studios and 57 one-bedroom and 53 two-bedroom apartments at 353 Main St., Alex Sanchez, executive vice president at ROEM Corporation, the developer, said plans for the building are ready for public comment after a year of preliminary work with city staff. “I think we’re ready to take this to public for a hearing,” he said. “Our initial submittal is basically a starting point.” Expected to occupy a lot where one- story office buildings currently stand next to a four- story luxury apartment complex , the building would border Redwood Creek on its southern end. Sanchez said 19 units would be affordable at very low, low and moderate incomes in compliance with the city’s policy that...

Kroger plans new store and urban apartments on the eastern edge of downtown Dallas | Real Estate

A new Kroger supermarket on the edge of Dallas' Arts District will offer more than groceries. The supermarket chain plans for its new store to be part of a mixed-use development that includes hundreds of new apartments. Kroger last year purchased a block of land on Hall Street between Ross Avenue and North Central Expressway . It's just across the highway from downtown and in an area that's seeing rapid redevelopment. Early this year Kroger filed plans with the City of Dallas to build just a supermarket and surface parking on the site. But now the grocery giant has teamed up with a local apartment builder and wants to include 375 apartments with the project. The development designed by Dallas architect GFF would have four stories of rental units on top of a 2- level Kroger store , plans for the project show. Dallas- based apartment builder Trinsic Residential Group would build the rental units on top of the grocery store and parking garage at Hall and Flora streets. ...

The Home Front: In Colorado, ‘fed up’ towns take on the oil-and-gas industry

Image
“Colorado residents fed up with what they see as the state’s failure to protect people and the environment are fighting fossil- fuel development inside their towns by making new rules requiring odor control , bigger setbacks and company disclosure of underground oil and gas flowlines,” reports The Denver Post . “But the industry and state government are ready to fight back. An odor- control measure in Erie, letting police hit companies with tickets for foul fumes, takes effect next week. Erie, Broomfield, Thornton and Lafayette are each developing map submission rules , with leaders saying the fatal April 17 house explosion in Firestone makes this a no-brainer. Broomfield residents also will vote on whether to change their charter to require protection of health, safety and the environment as preconditions before drilling inside city limits can be done.” “At the urging of Councilwoman Polly Christensen , Longmont has posted a link on its city government home page to the City Co...
