Around 5:20 p.m., police received reports that two men associated with a white Chrysler sedan were smashing a car window in the parking lot of the Petaluma Village Premium Outlets , according to a news release from the Petaluma Police Department . Within a few minutes, police located the Chrysler in the parking lot, though the driver immediately sped away from the 2200 Petaluma Blvd . North retail complex . The driver led police on a chase headed southbound on the heavily congested Petaluma Boulevard South , topping out at 60 mph, police said. Less than a mile later, the driver made a left onto Shasta Avenue, which is a dead end street . Missing 4-year-old boy found safe; grandmother arrested

ORLANDO, Fla. - A missing 4-year-old boy has been found safe and his grandmother has been arrested in connection with his disappearance, Orange County sheriff 's deputies said. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an alert early Friday for Kyson Calderon, who had last been seen Thursday at the Beacon Hill Apartments near Pine Hills.  The boy and his grandmother, Gwendolyn Walker, 51, were found in the Apopka area, according to the Orange County Sheriff 's Office. Kyson's mother, Summer Granthman, said authorities tracked down Walker using the signal from her cellphone. The boy, who deputies said was in good health, was reunited with his mother, deputies said. When we pulled up, he was sitting there on a chair eating his chips and drinking his soda," Granthman said. "My heart was about to beat out of my chest.  I just wanted to get to him." Grantham said she's not sure where Waler took the boy, but she's happy to have him back in her ar

Champions Walk apartments fetch $58 million - News - Sarasota Herald-Tribune

Davie-based seller nearly doubles its money on the deal John Hielscher Staff Writer @johndhielscher MANATEE COUNTY — Cutting its second deal here in three months, a Pennsylvania real estate investment company has purchased the Champions Walk apartments for $58 million. An affiliate of Merion Realty Partners last week acquired the 376-unit complex at 4148 53rd Ave. W. near IMG Academy in Bradenton. In May, Merion paid $19.1 million for the Bradenton Reserve Apartments , a 166- unit community next to IMG. The seller of Champions Walk nearly doubled its money on the deal. Champions Walk of Bradenton LLC, a Davie- based company managed by Mark Kalimian, paid $30.1 million for the complex in early 2013, about half of its boom-time price. Kalimian acquired the property from a Hallandale-based company that had paid $60 million in 2007, county records show . Just 18 months later, that company lost a $53. 7 million foreclosure judgment and ceded the property to Lehman Bros., which fa

Tehran's disabled face accessibility crisis

Iranian NGO Bavar , disabled activists are pushing for better recognition of their rights" class="blkBorder img-share" /> At the offices of Iranian NGO Bavar , disabled activists are pushing for better recognition of their rights The chaotic, impenetrable streets of Tehran have left Navid, a multiple sclerosis sufferer , feeling like a prisoner in his home. Even for the able-bodied, the uncontrolled building spree of recent years means the Iranian capital can often seem like an assault course of narrow broken pathways , gutters full of rushing water, and cars shoved into every available inch of space. For the thousands of disabled people in Tehran, the hilly streets are effectively a no-go zone. "My companions are the four walls around me. I'm so tired of staring at the ceiling," said Navid Salahi, a 30-year-old who is confined to a wheelchair after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis as a child. "I'm afraid to go outside on my own. It&#

‘Deadbeat’ doggy dad sued for $32,000 in pet support

You’ve heard about a deadbeat dad — but what about a deadbeat doggy daddy ? A Manhattan marketing director is suing her surfer bro ex-husband, claiming he’s failed to pay more than $32,000 for the upkeep of their pet dog, a female fawn- colored English bulldog named Lola , since they split in 2012. Sarah Bronilla, 39, married Josh Rosen , co-founder of the Soho lifestyle company Saturdays Surf , in 2006. The couple broke up a few years later and signed a separation agreement in September 2012, according to Bronilla’s Manhattan Supreme Court suit . Since then Rosen hasn’t paid a penny to support Lola while Bronilla’s dished out $18,000 for dog food, $4,671.56 in vet bills and $12,000 for other expenses, according to court papers. Bronilla “as of Sept. 10, 2012 has always and exclusively paid for all costs and expenses with respect to the upkeep of and dog food for Lola,” the single mom sniffs in court papers. Rosen, who describes himself as a “perpetual child” in a 2010 interview, wa

ICYMI: Al Capone’s Park Slope Home Is For Sale

Image
PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — If you've ever wanted to live in the old Brooklyn home of a notorious gangster, you've got a chance to do it. The Park Slope home where Al Capone used to live is up for sale, and it will only cost you a cool $2.5 million to move in. Capone grew up in a nearby building on Garfield Place, according to realtor.com, and moved into this listing in the early 1900s. "If he had lived here today, he wouldn’t have to go into the rum-running business," listing agent Bren Salamon told Patch . That's because Capone could make some serious dough from the two rental units attached to the condo, which could bring in a pretty penny in 2017 Park Slope . Anyone who moves in, though, won't be looking at any old relics of Brooklyn gone by. The home, as many are in the borough these days, was completely renovated by an investor about a year ago. The main townhouse is 2, 980 square feet spread over two levels. Along with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, t

Converted Office Parks Try to Lure Millennials With Cheaper Rents

Developer National Resources has for several years been studying different office, retail and residential schemes for an underused corporate campus designed in the 1960s for International Business Machines Corp. in East Fishkill, N.Y. But now, as National Resources moves to close on a deal to buy a 300-acre site, the Greenwich, Conn.- based developer is recognizing that housing has got to be a central component of the plan. Firm principals Lynne Ward and Joseph Cotter recognize low rents are the best way to lure millennials and others away from New York City, about a 90-minute drive away. National Resources is paying an undisclosed price for the land from California- based semiconductor company Globalfoundries , which purchased IBM’s semiconductor business in 2015 and still runs a slimmed down operation at the East Fishkill site that employs around 1,700 workers. Chesterfield man who lost his leg in violent attack on his family is now a wheelchair basketball star on his way to college | Life

Everyone but physical therapist Danene Brown had left for lunch on a spring day in 2013 when there came a knock at the door at The Gait Center, a Henrico County rehabilitation facility that specializes in helping people who have trouble walking because of injury, illness or disability. Brown opened the door and there, on crutches, stood Cor’Rales Dupree, a young man who clearly had recently lost part of a leg. An IV pole stood next to him. “When can I start?” Dupree asked an astonished Brown . The short answer was not right then — not so soon after being discharged from the hospital and certainly not while he was still attached to an IV pumping antibiotics into him. But within weeks, appointments were made and the work began, and it’s never stopped for Dupree, who had just turned 16 when on Thanksgiving Day in 2012 he was shot while protecting his mother and younger brother from his mother’s enraged ex-boyfriend. The severity of two gunshot wounds to his left leg forced surg

Foundation for the Future: The Waterfront Vancouver

By next summer, the views from here could be among the most prized in Vancouver. Block 8, a 48,000-square-foot plot, is slated to house apartments and retail buildings. Underground parking will be included. Announced tenants include M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust , Cascade Sotheby’s International Realty and MidiCi Neapolitan Pizza . Columbia Waterfront LLC , the group of private investors leading the waterfront development, received a $42.5 million loan from U.S. Bank for this project in June.

Small Apartment Got A Complete Remodel And A New Attic Room

Sometimes an apartment can seem smaller than it actually is and that’s usually because of bad planning of the floor space or an impractical layout . This 48. 5 square meter apartment in New Taipei City, Taiwan is a pretty good example. Its original interior design was fragmented, with lots of walls separating the spaces, creating a claustrophobic ambiance. Then came A’Lentil Design and gave the apartment a complete remodel. View in gallery Initially, the apartment had a layout that made it feel smaller than it actually was View in gallery This used to be a second bedroom and it’s been transformed into the new living room The first thing the designers did was to break down the original layout and to open up the interior. They wanted to offer the inhabitants more freedom of movement and it was hard to achieve that with all the walls standing in the way. By eliminating the unnecessary barriers , they also managed to ensure a better connection between the different spaces in the apart
