Quail Ridge Apartments case goes to court

MAUMEE, OH (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) - An attorney for Quail Ridge apartment owner Mark Merrill met with the city prosecutor on Wednesday.

It was a pre-trial hearing for the civil case.

Merrill is charged with seven building code violations after the Maumee apartments, which are located on Piccadilly Lane, went up in flames on June 9. The Maumee Fire Chief says the blaze started in some mulch. One building in the complex was destroyed. Everyone evacuated safely.

Court documents show the company has failed to maintain the property, saying balconies were not structurally sound, electrical wiring was exposed, plumbing was leaking, and portions of the wall were rotting and broken.
